Bernard Matemera was born in Guruve, Zimbabwe. He was a founding member of the Tengenenge collective and lived and worked at Tengenenge Sculpture Village. He is a self-taught sculptor who has always stressed that he has never been a member of the African Workshop School. He has his own characteristic style and and his works have been exhibited in many museums, both in Africa as well as in Europe and the US.¹
